Business structures - materclass

This seminar is designed to assist people who are either very knowledgeable regarding the legal and financial issues associated with various entity types or have attended either of the two prerequisite seminars:

• Business structures - companies trusts taxation issues 8 June 2010;
• Business structures for asset protection and asset realisation 9 June 2010

The seminar provides a hands on way of assessing the competing tensions of risk minimisation and asset protection versus tax effectiveness for business owners.

Workshop activity

Facilitated by Malcolm Burrows, the session is conduced in a workshop format where individuals will map the advantages and disadvantages of structures they are considering implementing according to various key considerations. Participants will have the opportunity of working with Jeremy Streten and Hudson Smith in assessing these key considerations.

Participants will then have the opportunity of justifying their choice of structure by explaining their reasoning for choosing the structure they have chosen and workshopping the results.

Variables considered by workshop participants:

• personal liability;
• likelihood of a dispute and mechanism for risk reduction;
• complexity of administration;
• tax effectiveness;
• the ability raise further capital via the issue of securities;
• asset valuation;
• asset realisation.

Time: 5.15pm for a 5.30pm start

Duration: 1.5 hours.
